Clinical characteristics of infant and young girls with labial adhesions and efficacy of manual separation

Abstract
ObjectiveTo analyze the clinical characteristics of infant and young girls with labial adhesions and to assess the efficacy of manual separation.
MethodsClinical data of 439 infant and young girls with labial adhesions admitted in Children Healthcare Center of Xi′an Children′s Hospital from January 2019 to September 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. All patients received treatment with manual separation. After separation, perineal cleaning and erythromycin cream were applied.
ResultsThe etiology was associated with repeated history of vulvovaginitis due to improper cleaning and nursing of vulva in 85.19% cases(374/439), it was unclear in 14.81% (65/439). The average age of onset minora adhesions in young girls was 15.9 months old, of which 88.38% (388/439)was from 3 months to 3 years old, and 58.54%(257/439) had no obvious clinical manifestations. After treatment, the adhesions were successfully separated in all the patients, but 30(6.83%) children had recurrence one week later.
ConclusionEarly manual separation can effectively improve the cure rate and reduce the recurrence rate for infant or young girls with labial adhesions.
