Abstract
Vitamin D is an important nutrient in the human body. Vitamin D deficiency is common in pregnant women, which is associated with a variety of adverse maternal and newborn outcomes, such as gestational diabetes mellitus, preeclampsia, pregnancy loss, preterm delivery, and small for gestational age infants, etc. There are a large number of studies on the Vitamin D supplementation for prevention of pregnancy-related complications. However, there has been no consensus on the association of Vitamin D levels during pregnancy with maternal and newborn outcomes, and effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation in prevention of related complications due to different study trial designs and in different populations. This article reviews the research progress on Vitamin D level during pregnancy and its association with maternal and newborn outcomes.
