Abstract
ObjectiveTo analyze personality type of military medical university undergraduates among different specialties for talent selection and teaching reform.
MethodsUsing the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, 2098 undergraduates of a military medical university were surveyed.
Results(1) The percentages of Extroversion-Sensing-Thinking-Judging (ESTJ, 14.1%), Intuition-Sensing-Thinking-Judging (ISTJ, 11.8%) and Introversion-Intuition-Feeling-Perception (INFP, 11.7%) were the highest in military medical undergraduates. It showed statistical significances in the performances among different personality types (χ2= 73.610, P=0.005), in which the percentages of good marks were higher in Extroversion-Intuition-Feeling-Perception(ENFP), Introversion-Sensing-Thinking-Perception (ISTP), Introversion-Sensing-Feeling-Perception(ISFP) and Extroversion-Intuition-Feeling-Judging (ENFJ) types while their percentages of poor marks were on the contrary. (2) It showed no statistical significances in the performances among personality type in all 8 specialties(χ2=56.375, 36.759, 38.803, 39.789, 51.985, 39.886, 48.892, P>0.05) except naval medicine specialties(χ2=75.506, P=0.003). For those specialized in naval medicine, the percentages of good marks were higher in ENFP and Introversion-Intuition-Thinking-Perception (INTP) while the percentages of ESTJ (19.8%), INFP(15.7%), Extroversion-Sensing-Feeling-Judging (ESFJ, 10.3%) and Introversion-Intuition-Thinking-Judging(INTJ, 10.1%) were the highest in quantity.
ConclusionsIt is different between personality priorities that perform better and typical personality type that is in a greater number in military medical undergraduates. The advantages of personality type are unconspicuous except those specialized in naval medicine. Research on advantages of personality type is the basis of scientifically selecting people and teaching reform deeply.
