Correlation analysis of breastfeeding self-efficacy and social support for premature mothers

Abstract
ObjectiveTo survey the effect of social support on breastfeeding self-efficacy in premature mothers.
MethodsA total of 201 premature mothers delivered were included from June to December, 2015. The breastfeeding self-efficacy scale and social support scale were used. Pearson correlation analysis was used.
ResultsThe median score of breastfeeding self-efficacy in preterm mother was 51, and the median score of social support was 52. Social support and breastfeeding self-efficacy scores were positively correlated (r=0.378, P<0.01). Every dimension of social support scale was positively correlated with every dimension of breastfeeding self-efficacy scale(r=0.255, 0.221, 0.407, 0.189; P<0.05).
ConclusionsNICU nurses could depend on the breastfeeding mother's family unit, and improve maternal social support to promotion of successful implementation of breastfeeding in premature mothers through refining health education, improving management skill, optimizing the unit environment.
