Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the relationship among experiential avoidance, acceptance and psychological distress of diabetic patients and provide basis for reducing the experiential avoidance, promoting patients to accept the diabetes and decreasing their psychological distress.
MethodsA total of 218 patients with type 2 diabetes were investigated using the general information questionnaire, Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-2nd Edition, Ideas about Diabetes-Revised and Diabetes Distress Scale.
ResultsThe score of experiential avoidance for diabetes patients was (15.94±8.188) points; the score of acceptance of diabetic patients was (68.27±7.669) points; the score of psychological distress was (35.72±16.560) points. The experiential avoidance was positively correlated with psychological distress of diabetes (r=0.414, P<0.01) . The acceptance was negatively correlated with psychological distress of diabetic patients (r=-0.355, P<0.01) .
ConclusionsThe acceptance and psychological distress of diabetic patients are at a moderate level, and the experiential avoidance of diabetic patients needs to be improved. Medical personnel should reduce experiential avoidance to improve the acceptance of diabetes patients and reduce their psychological distress.
