Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical characteristics of extramedullary plasmacytoma(EMP), and retrospectively analyze the prognosis of EMP.
MethodsThe clinical data of 38 patients with EMP in the first affiliated hospital of Zhengzhou university were collected, and carried on the follow-up, Kaplan-Meier method was applied to retrospectively analyze the clinical characteristics, treatment and prognostic factors.
ResultsThe median follow-up time was 12 months(0-55 months). In study group, 20 cases got complete remission(CR), seven cases had partial remission(PR), 4 cases lost follow-up, one case had recurrence, five cases died, one case progressed to multiple myeloma(MM) and died after two months. Among the 38 cases, the age ranged 5-87 (58.1±2.4) years old, male and female tatio was 1.1∶1. Log-rank chi-square test showed, the survival curves of 38 patients with EMP and 168 cases of multiple myeloma(MM) in the same time had no significant difference(χ2=1.245, P=0.265).
ConclusionsThere is no significant difference in the recent survival rate of EMP group and MM group; middle and old males are more likely to develop EMP, some of them can progress to MM.
