Abstract
ObjectiveTo observe the clinical efficacy of three different methods of canalicular intubation of double-passage annular stent, punctal plugs and canalicular intubation of single-passage stent for the protection of lacrimal puncta in eye burns.
MethodsFrom May 2013 to Dec. 2017, the data of 135 eyes of 131 patients with inner canthus burn were analyzed reteospectively. Patients with both upper and lower lacrimal puncta burned were involved in the double-passage group, patients with lacrimal passages and nasal cavity diseases who couldnot be catheterized were selected into the punctal plugs group, and the remaining patients were randomly divided into three groups. The lacrimal duct stent support was retained for 2 months and the followed up time was more than 3 months after removing the stent.
ResultsThe three methods could protect the lacrimal puncta in eye burns. The difference of effective rate was statistically significant between double-passage group. The difference of effective rate was statistically significant between the double-passage group and the punctual plugs, the single-passage sent group. There was no statistically significant difference between the punctual plugs group and the sigle-passage sent group (P>0.0167). The efficacy of the double-passage group was 100.00%, followed by 97.96% of the punctual plugs group and 92.31% of single-passage stent group.
ConclusionThe three methods can effectively prevent lacrimal puncta occlusion. Canalicular intubation of double-passage annular stent has the best protective effect on lacrimal puncta in eye burns.
