Effect of enhanced recovery in postoperative rehabilitation among elderly patients with hip fractures

Abstract
ObjectiveTo assess the impact of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) in postoperative rehabilitation among elderly patients with hip fracture.
MethodsThe clinical data of 100 elderly patients with hip fracture in Xi’an High-tech Hospital from December 2016 to June 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were confirmed by imaging aged ≥60 years, without surgical contraindications. According to admission sequence, patients were divided into observation group (n=50) and control group (n=50) using the randomized digital table method. The observation group were treated with ERAS measures, and the control group was treated with traditional routine nursing care for hip fracture management. The common complications rate and the pain scores on the 1st, 3rd, and 7th postoperative days were compared between the two groups. The count data including sex, comorbidities, fracture type, postoperative complications was analyzed by chi-square test, and measurement data including sex and pain sore were compared by t-test.
ResultsOn the 1st, 3rd and 7th day after operation, the pain scores of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group (t=5.20, 5.28, 2.96, P<0.05). The incidence of common complications was lower than that of the control group (χ2=9.72, P<0.05).
ConclusionThe application of postoperative ERAS management measures in elderly patients with hip fracture can improve pain and reduce postoperative complications rate.
