Abstract
ObjectiveTo acquire a understanding of methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection and mucormycosis from a misdiagnosed patient.
MethodsA case of infection with MRSA misdiagnosed as mucormycosis was retrospectively analyzed and the related literature was reviewed.
ResultsPatients with extensive MRSA infenction of respiratory tract, such as cough, expectoration, fever and shortness of breath, was similar to these with mucormycosis. Both infections occured in the immunocompromised population, onset acut and progress fast, and easy to bemisdiagnosed.
ConclusionsUnderstanding the character of the MRSA infection and mucormycosis can decrease the misdiagnose rate, and sputum smear、culture and histopathological examination can improve diagnosis rate.Bronchscope is very necessary and important, especially in the early identification and treatment of the infections.
