Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the current situation of empathy ability of pediatric nurses and analyze its influencing factors.
MethodsA total of 195 nurses in the emergency department, ICU and surgical department of a children's hospital were investigated by the empathy questionnaire which is designed by Wang Qiaohong.
ResultsPaediatric nurses had better overall empathy ability with an average of (113.41±10.33) points, but the behavioral assistance dimension of the three major dimensions of empathy scored lower with an average of (32.48±3.01) points. The scores of psychological cognition and emotional experience of nurses in different departments were significantly different (P<0.05). The scores of nurses' empathy ability were different in age, nursing age, education level and marital status (P<0.05).
ConclusionsThe ability of nurses to use empathy knowledge to solve practical clinical problems is weak, so the understanding and application of empathy knowledge should be further strengthened. Managers should pay attention to and conduct empathy training for the weak points of pediatric nurses in different positions.
