Abstract
ObjectiveTo evaluate the short-term anti-virologic efficacy of two first-line antiretroviral therapy (ART) containing Zidovudine or Tenofovir in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/ acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients.
MethodsFrom September 2014 to September 2017, total 325 HIV/AIDS patients from Harbin Infectious disease hospital were recruited. The patients were treated with one of two ART of first-line regimen for 4 weeks.Viral load and CD4 count were examined before and after the therapy.
ResultsAll 325 patients were enrolled in this study with 116 cases in AZT group and 209 cases in TDF group. There are no significant difference in age, sex, and the transmission routs between the two groups. At week four after the therapy, the inhibition rate of virus in AZT group and TDF group was 80% and 70%, respectively. The inhibition rate of TDF group (94%) was higher than of AZT group (88%) at low baseline of viral load (VL) (104< VL<105)(P>0.05). However, the inhibition rate of AZT group (74%) was higher than TDF group (57%) at high baseline of viral load (P=0.03).
ConclusionThe viral inhibition rate in AZT group was higher than in TDF group at week four after short-term treatment.AZT group had rapid virological response. The findings may provide an insight into proper treatment of HIV/AIDS patients.
