Abstract
ObjectiveTo discuss the expression of microRNA (miRNA, miR)-126 in colon cancer and its clinical significance.
MethodsThe expression of miR-126 in colon cancer and cell line was detected by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and its relationship with clinicopathological features was analyzed. We transfected the miR-126 mimics into SW480 cells, and cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) was used to analyze cell proliferation.
ResultsThe positive expression rate of miR-126 in colon cancer was 38.33%, which was significantly lower than that in adjacent normal tissues (P=0.017). The low expression of miR-126 in colon cancer tissue was related to lymph node metastasis (P=0.005), the degree of histological differentiation (P=0.018) and TNM staging (P=0.000), but not to the age and sex of the patients (P=0.350, P=0.819). The relative expression of miR-126 in colon cancer SW480 cells was 0.355±0.060, which was significantly lower than that of FHC cells (P=0.024). Overexpression of miR-126 in SW480 cells could significantly suppress cell proliferation (P=0.012, 0.003, 0.000).
ConclusionThe low expression of miR-126 in colon cancer can affect the proliferation of colon cancer cells and inhibit the development of colon cancer.
