Abstract
ObjectiveTo evaluate the value of preoperative catheterization in reducing urethral injury in patients undergoing transperineal prostate biopsy.
MethodsSixty-two patients who underwent transperineal prostate biopsy were randomly divided into observation group and control group, and 32 cases in observation group were given preoperative catheterization, while 30 cases in control group were without catheterization. The positive rate of prostate biopsy and postoperative hematuria, dysuria and urinary retention were compared between the two groups.
ResultsThere was no significant difference between the two groups in the positive rate of prostate biopsy(P>0.05). The incidence of hematuria, dysuria and urinary retention in the observation group was 28.1%(9/32), 12.5%(4/32) and 6.25%(2/32), respectively, and which were significantly lower than those in the control group 56.7%(17/30), 36.7%(11/30), 30.0%(9/30), respectively, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).
ConclusionsPreoperative catheterization in transperineal prostate biopsy will not affect the prostate biopsy quality, and it is helpful to reduce urethral injury. It is worthy of popularization and application.
