Expert consensus of selective cervical nerve root block therapy in China (2021)

Abstract
Selective cervical nerve root block, mainly used in the pain diseases management of head, neck, shoulder, back and upper limb region, is essential in the department of painology, and can be also used for local surgical anesthesia in some operation. This expert consensus introduces the anatomy of cervical nerve root, systematically describes the various approach, common drugs, indications, contraindications and complications of selective cervical nerve root block. The consensus recommends that both conventional approaches of anatomical landmarks and image-guided approaches can be used for selective cervical nerve root block. Derived from published literatures and clinical practice, it has been demonstrated that selective cervical nerve root block is an effective and safe technique for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic painful diseases in the head, neck, shoulder, back and upper limb.
