Abstract
Von Willebrand disease (VWD) is the most common hereditary bleeding disorder in humans. Precise diagnosis and classification of VWD is based on a series of complicated tests, which is not available in most laboratories. In China, very few hospitals could offer diagnostic and classification tests for VWD patients. To change this situation, domestic experts in thrombosis and hemostasis and other health care professionals summarized the application of VWD diagnosis and classification system in China, took in account of international guidelines on the diagnosis of VWD and related research progress, and established the present consensus on VWD diagnosis. In this consensus, we discussed the basic principle and application scope of bleeding-assessment tools, screening tests, diagnostic assays, classification tests as well as genetic testing in details for the diagnosis of VWD. Meanwhile, we provided proper comments and suggestions on several key issues which might be raised during the diagnostic procedure of VWD. The aim of this consensus is to help rational selection of diagnostic and classification tests of VWD for laboratories with different conditions and demands, and improve the diagnostic rate of VWD in China.
