Meta analysis on effectiveness and safety of a live attenuated oral rotavirus vaccine, RotaTaq among children

Abstract
ObjectiveTo evaluate the effectiveness and safety of RotaTeq, the live attenuated oral rotavirus vaccine, against rotavirus gastroenteritis among children.
MethodsLiteratures that met the inclusion criteria and published from 2006 to 2020 on the live attenuated oral rotavirus vaccine, RotaTeq vaccine, were retrieved and a total of 13 455 subjects were enrolled. RevMan 5.3 software was used in statistical analyses.
ResultsThe protective effectiveness of RotaTeq vaccine against rotavirus gastroenteritis (RVGE) and severe rotavirus gastroenteritis (SRVGE) were VERVGE = 70% (95% CI: 0.65-0.73) and VESRVGE = 94% (95% CI: 0.75-0.99), respectively. The adverse reaction rates in the vaccination group and control group were 5.13% and 5.38%, respectively.
ConclusionsIn low mortality areas, RotaTeq showed safety and effectiveness in preventing rotavirus gastroenteritis of any severity with better protective effect on severe rotavirus gastroenteritis.
