Clinical value of 24h dynamic EEG to assess the condition of viral encephalitis

Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the value of 24 h dynamic electroencephalogram (EEG) in the evaluation of viral encephalitis.
MethodsRetrospective analysis was used to extract 140 patients with viral encephalitis diagnosed in our hospital from March 2016 to March 2018, according to the EEG examination method divided into routine EEG group (65 cases) and dynamic EEG group (75 cases). The EEG abnormalities detected by EEG in two groups were compared. At the same time, the patients’ prognosis was observed, and the disability rate and mortality rate of patients with different EEG abnormalities were compared.
ResultsThe abnormal detection rate in the dynamic EEG group was higher than that in the conventional EEG group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The rate of disability of patients with normal EEG and mild abnormal EEG was higher than that of patients with dynamic eeg, and the mortality rate of patients with moderate abnormal was higher than that in the dynamic EEG group, there were significant differences (P<0.05). The difference between disability rate and mortality was not significantly different (P>0.05).
ConclusionsThe 24 h dynamic EEG monitoring is more accurate in the evaluation of viral encephalitis than the routine eeg monitoring, which is helpful for physicians to establish a reasonable and targeted treatment plan for patients as early as possible, reduce the risk of disability and death, and significantly improve the prognosis of patients.
