Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) combined with conventional comprehensive therapy in the treatment of children with idiopathic short stature.
MethodsSixty-two children with idiopathic short stature treated in General Hospital of Pingmei Shenma Medical Group from April 2019 to March 2021 were selected, and they were divided into observation group and control group by random number table method, with 31 cases in each group. The control group received conventional comprehensive therapy, while the observation group received rhGH combined with conventional comprehensive therapy. The height increment, growth rate, levels of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), predicted adult height (PAH), bone age (BA), height standard deviation score by bone age (Ht-SDSBA), height standard deviation score by chronological age (Ht-SDSCA) and adverse reaction rate were compared between the two groups.
ResultsThe height increment and growth rate of the observation group were higher than those of the control group 3 and 6 months after treatment (all P<0.05). After treatment, the level of IGF-1 in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, and the level of TSH was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the PAH level in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference in BA between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, Ht-SDSBA and Ht-SDSCA in the observation group were superior to those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the observation group (9.68%, 3/31) and the control group (12.90%, 4/31), P>0.05.
ConclusionsrhGH combined with conventional comprehensive therapy can regulate the expression of TSH and IGF-1, and promote physical development in children with idiopathic short stature with good safety.
