Abstract
Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of Symfony artificial lens (ZXR IOL) cataract implantation on axial myopia.
Methods:This was a prospective clinical study. Sixty-two patients (95 eyes) with axial myopia were selected for cataract phacoemulsification combined with artificial lens implantation in Daqing Oil Field General Hospital from October 2016 to October 2017. The patients were divided into two groups based on reading requirements. The ZXR IOL was implanted in 29 patients (43 eyes) and the TECNIS ZCB intraocular lens (ZCB IOL) was implanted in 33 patients (52 eyes). Postoperative follow-up was 3 months. Visual acuity, visual symptoms, defocus curve, contrast sensitivity and aberrations were measured. Data were analyzed using the independent sample t test and Chi-square test.
Results:Distance visual acuity (LogMAR) was close to 0.0 in both groups after the operation. The ZXR group was superior to the ZCB group at intermediate visual acuity and near visual acuity and the difference was statistically significant (t=-3.579, P<0.001; t=-2.151, P=0.019). A much higher percent of patients in the ZXR group did not need spectacles (95%) compared to the ZCB group (15%) and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=32.248, P=0.012). Higher-order aberrations in the ZXR group were similar to the ZCB group with a 3 mm pupil, and were different with 5 mm pupils (t=4.128, P<0.001).
Conclusion:ZXR IOL implantation in patients with axial myopia and cataract can achieve good distance, middle and near vision, meeting the need for spectacle independence.
