Analysis of projects funded in field of locomotor system from National Natural Science Foundation of China Young Scientist Fund from the financial year 2010 to 2014

Abstract
ObjectiveTo summarize the projects funded in the field of locomotor system from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Young Scientist Funds from 2010 to 2014.
MethodsThe Young Scientist Funds in the field of locomotor medicine from NSFC were statistically analyzed, and the situation of various branches and hot issues were reviewed from 2010 to 2014.
Results(1) There were 374 projects with 83.95 million RMB in H06 category funded by NSFC Young Scientists Funding; (2) The sub-categories of the most funded projects were H0605 (the injury and repair of bone, joints and soft tissue, 128 projects) and H0609 (the degenerative disease of bone, joints and soft tissue, 87 projects); (3) Intervertebral disc degeneration and osteoarthritis were the most involved diseases in the application and approved projects; (4) The top 3 funded affiliations were Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University and Second Military Medical University, both in number of projects and total funds; (5) Young investigators supported by Young Scientists Funds were much earlier and easier to obtain Major Research Plans from NSFC.
ConclusionThe projects supported by Young Scientist Funds grew rapidly in the field of Locomotor Medicine from NSFC. Young Scientist Funds provided great guidance for the young investigators in China, which was very important to promote the development in the field of locomotor system.
