Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the efficacy and safety of amoxicillin and metronidazole combined with cetylpyridine chloride rinse in the treatment of simple periodontitis.
MethodsNinety-nine patients with simple periodontitis were divided into control group (n=49) and observation group (n=50) according to random number table method, the control group was treated with amoxicillin + metronidazole and the observation group were treated with amoxicillin+ metronidazole+ cetylpyridinium chloride rinse. The clinical efficacy, periodontal indexes [periodontal exploration depth (BOP), clinical attachment loss (CAL), anterior teeth coverage] and inflammatory factors [interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-14], amylin A (SAA) levels were compared between the two groups, and the incidence of adverse reactions and quality of life (SF-36) were statistically analyzed.
Results①Clinical efficacy: the total effective rate in the observation group [92.00% (46/50)] was higher than that in the control group [77.55%(38/49)], the difference was significant (P<0.05); ② periodontal index: anterior teeth cover, PD, BOP and CAL were smaller than those in the control group after 8 weeks of treatment, the differences were significant (P<0.05); ③ sAA and inflammatory factors: the serum IL-6, IL-14 and SAA levels in the observation group were lower than those in the control group after 8 weeks of treatment, the differences were significant (P<0.05); ④ adverse reactions: there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the observation group [14.00% (7/50)] and the control group [8.16% (4/49)] (P>0.05); ⑤ quality of life: after 8 weeks of treatment, the SF-36 score of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, the difference was significant (P<0.05).
ConclusionsAmoxicillin and metronidazole combined with cetylpyridinium chloride can improve the inflammatory response, periodontal tissue environment and quality of life in patients with simple periodontitis, and the curative effect is remarkable and the safety is high.
