Abstract
ObjectiveTo investigate the therapeutic effect of Ommaya reservoir drainage on neonatal hydrocephalus secondary to intracranial hemorrhage.
MethodsA total of 30 neonates with hydrocephalus secondary to intracranial hemorrhage who received Ommaya reservoir drainage in Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Guangdong Province from January 2020 to February 2021 were collected. The conditions of the children were closely observed after the surgery, and their age, weight, gestational age, postoperative hematoma clearance rate, postoperative infection, postoperative Glasgow Coma Scale (GOS), and postoperative Glasgow Outcome Score (GCS) were collected to determine the efficacy of Ommaya reservoir drainage in the treatment of neonatal hydrocephalus secondary to intracranial hemorrhage.
ResultsAmong the 30 children, there were 18 males and 12 females, with a gestational age of (37.82±1.77) weeks. The drainage time was (5.29±1.87) days, and the hematoma clearance rate was (89.33±20.17)% 7 days after the surgery. Complications occurred in 6 children, with a complication rate of 20.0%, including 3 cases of intracranial infection, 2 cases of blockage of drainage tube, and 1 case of ventricular hemorrhage.
ConclusionOmmaya reservoir has a certain effect in treating neonatal hydrocephalus secondary to intracranial hemorrhage, and can reduce the incidence of complications in neonates, which can be further applied in clinical research.
