Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is closely related to mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer′s disease (AD).The high comorbidity can be observed in elderly population. It has been found in increased animal experiments and clinical researches that OSA is associated with an increased risk of developing MCI and AD.Comparing with non-AD patients of the same age, the prevalence of OSA is also significantly higher in AD patients.Effective treatments of OSA can delay the development of AD, which is of great clinical importance. This paper reviews the research advances among OSA, MCI and AD.The influences of OSA on morbidity and biomarkers of MCI and AD, the pathogenesis, and the value of continuous positive airway pressure are emphatically discussed.Emphasis is laid on the necessity of early screening and intervention of OSA in people with cognitive impairment.
Key words:
