Abstract
ObjectiveTo systematically evaluate the pooled prevalence of psychological distress in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in China.
MethodsCNKI, VIP, WanFang Database, CBM, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science were searched to collect studies from inception to January 2022 for all literature on the detection rate of psychological distress in patients with T2DM. Two researchers independently screened literature, extracted information and evaluated the quality of the studies based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. We used Stata 14.0 software to evaluate the meta-analysis, and the data were combined using a fixed-effects model or a random-effects model, publication bias was detected using funnel plots and Egger′s tests.
ResultsA total of 39 papers including 13 348 study subjects were included. The pooled prevalence of psychological distress in Chinese patients with T2DM was 54% (95%CI 45%-62%). Subgroup analysis showed that the psychological distress detection rates were 51.7% (95%CI 42.2%-61.1%) in 2012—2016 and 56.3% (95%CI 38.9%-73.6%) in 2017 and beyond. The detection rates of psychological distress were 50.9% (95%CI 39.5%-62.3%), 55.9% (95%CI 53.9%-58.0%), and 54.0% (95%CI 36.6%-71.3%) in the eastern, central, and western regions, respectively. The detection rates of psychological distress were 54.7% (95%CI 40.6%-68.8%) and 53.1% (95%CI 42.8%-63.4%) for community and inpatients. The detection rates of psychological distress according to the diabetes distress scale, and diabetes problem scale-5 were 53.4% (95%CI 43.8%-63.0%) and 50.4% (95%CI 39.6%-61.2%). The detection rates of mild to moderate and severe psychological distress were 41.5% (95%CI 32.3%-50.7%) and 13.4% (95%CI 10.6%-16.2%).
ConclusionsThe detection rate of psychological distress in patients with T2DM in China is relatively high, and most of the patients have mild to moderate psychological distress.
