Abstract
ObjectiveAccording to the primary construction and using of Judgment About Nursing Decision (JAND, Chinese Edition), ability of nursery decision making in undergraduates is evaluated to see if ethic course have influence on it and also to provide a reference for the revolution of the course.
MethodsVia translation, revision, back-translation and verification of reliability and validity, the Chinese Edition of JAND is constructed. Then the scale was conducted to 47 nursery undergraduates who were randomly chosen from some Shanghai comprehensive universities to see if their ability of nursery decision making is improved after learning of nursery ethics and what are the influencing factors.
ResultsReliability and validity of JAND ( Chinese Edition) is 0.745 and 0.982. Before learning of the ethic course, the score of the scale is 264.98±22.43 while after the course, it is 275.62±22.10 (P<0.01). Moreover, both before and after the course, the score of reflecting knowledge of ideal ethical practice (in column A) is significantly higher than that of ethical practice reflected in simulated situations of ethical conflict (in column B) (P<0.01). Such influencing factors as lower social position (compared to doctors), imperfection of the ethical policies of nurse and contradiction between nurses and patients account for the relatively poor ethical practices ability.
ConclusionsThe reliability and validity of JAND (Chinese Edition) is fairly good. The score shows that nursery decision making ability among undergraduates is about medium level and ethical course has significant influence on it. However, for further improvement of the ability, clinical experience and practice is necessary.
