Abstract
ObjectiveTo explore the effect of dance movement therapy(DMT) on cognitive function, clinical symptoms and body mass index of hospitalized patients with chronic schizophrenia.
MethodsA total of 120 inpatients with chronic schizophrenia admitted to Mental Health Center Affiliated to Tongji University from October 2019 to September 2021 were selected as the research objects. They were divided into observation group (60 cases) and control group (60 cases) by random number table method. The control group received routine nursing intervention, while the observation group received DMT intervention.Cognitive function, clinical symptoms and Body Mass Index (BMI) of hospitalized patients with chronic schizophrenia were compared between the two groups before and after intervention.
ResultsThere was no significant difference in clinical symptoms, cognitive function and BMI before intervention(P>0.05). After intervention, positive symptoms, negative symptoms and general psychopathological scores were lower than those in the control group, and after intervention were lower than those before intervention (P<0.05). Cognitive function was divided into connection test, symbol coding, Hopkins word learning, spatial span, maze test, visual-spatial memory test, emotion management and semantic fluency scores, which were lower than those of the control group according to the Matrics Consensus Cognitive Battery(MCCB) test, and were lower after intervention than before intervention, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). The body weight and BMI of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).
ConclusionsDMT can improve cognitive function and clinical symptoms in patients with chronic schizophrenia and control BMI level.
