Abstract
ObjectiveTo establish a Weihai Municipal Hospital lung cancer cohort based on big data technology, so as to understand the clinical characteristics and survival of patients with lung cancer in this hospital.
MethodsFrom January 2016 to May 2021, 5 246 patients diagnosed with lung cancer in Weihai Municipal Hospital were enrolled as the research objects, and the information about the diagnosis procedure, pathology, treatment, recurrence date and death date was obtained from the big data platform. Descriptive analysis and survivorship curve were used for survival analysis.
ResultsThe median age of 5 246 patients was 63 years old. Males and smokers accounted for 51.94% and 18.28%, respectively. Patients with non-small cell lung cancer accounted for 89.88%, including 82.88% of adenocarcinoma and 7.97% of small cell lung cancer. There were 2 497 cases(47.60%) in stage Ⅰ, 294 cases(5.60%) in stage Ⅱ, 781 cases(14.89%) in stage Ⅲ, 1 450 cases(27.64%) in stage Ⅳ, and 224 cases(4.27%) in unknown stage. Taking the time of diagnosis of lung cancer as the starting point, the time of death or the last follow-up time as the end point, the average 5-year survival rate of lung cancer patients was 52.77%, and the median survival time was 5.37 years. By survivorship curve analysis, the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma was the best(5-year survival rate of 65.53%), and the prognosis of small cell lung cancer was the poorest(5-year survival rate of 15.51%).
ConclusionsNon-small cell lung cancer is the main type of lung cancer in Weihai, and the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma is relatively good. As a hospital-based longitudinal cohort of specific diseases, the Weihai Municipal Hospital lung cancer cohort has the sufficient number of cases and large amount of extracted information. It objectively reflects the clinical characteristics and survival of lung cancer patients in Weihai, and has reliable effectiveness and regional characteristics.
