Virtual reality(VR) technology can effectively divert the user′s attention and relieve pain, therefore, it is increasingly used in the treatment of mental illness, pain management, sport training, and medical teaching. Regional anesthesia has to be administered while the patient is awake and is prone to cause discomfort such as stress, anxiety and pain, which may render some patients unable to cooperate with the doctor′s procedures, and in some cases, the doctor may even have to temporarily change the anesthesia method as a result. This article summarizes and discusses the current status of the application of VR to improve the experience of intrathecal puncture operations and nerve block operations. In addition, it points out the shortcomings of the current research and suggests future prospects for the application of VR to improve patients′ experience of regional anesthesia operations.
